It’s surprising how you can find parallels from two things that on the surface share nothing in common. But you never know what you can learn from other disciplines. This was never more true in this conversation.
This interview was surprising in many ways. First of all, I’ve never met Phil Bawasanta aka Philtomato, a talented and hard working artist. Phil drew parallels where I was not expecting it. We even talked a little about sports. But as expected, he was delightful.
In the episode, we talk about how to become a better artist, gestural art, when validation from others is useful, finding flow, and much more.
Enjoy the episode.

This episode is brought to you by Qube Gallery — a progressive art space in Cebu, Philippines providing network and exhibit opportunities for contemporary artists with whom they work closely with and promote beyond the local reach.
Exhibitions on view: Sio Montera’s homecoming exhibition entitled FINDING THE CALM IN THE CHAOS curated by Ricky Francisco and VESINDAD by impressionist artist Jose Marie Picornell
The gallery is open on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 AM to 7 PM. For viewing or to request a catalogue, contact Pia at 0918 807 4175.
Qube Gallery also presents its exclusive online anniversary show, playfully titled “Past the Seven Year Itch”.
Despite this playfulness, this show recalls the past exhibitions of a no-longer fledgling art gallery. Referenced in popular culture, the “seven year itch” refers to the period of unrest that comes after trials, false starts, reboots and introspection to arrive at the realization that the question, “what next?”, needs to be addressed. This show is not only a reminder of all that is good but also a commitment to stay on course, mindful of the gallery’s significant contributions to the Southern Philippine contemporary art landscape.
