Can you feel the scorching heat? It’s summer!

We might hate the usual 38 degree days, but there are a thousand reasons to love summer. This is the time of year when having an ice cream or halo-halo twice a day is perfectly normal, when no classes means less traffic (unless you’re passing road reconstruction), when skimpy and rugged outfits are acceptable, when abs and bikinis are in and most of all, when you have every right to get away!

Like me, I know you are always scouting for great places to unravel.  I asked three beautiful beach bums to share their favorite summer destination with us.

What is your Favorite Summer Destination?

kim medIf I weren’t a Cebuana, I would have answered Cebu. But, other than this island paradise, a favorite summer destination would definitely be Bangkok, Thailand. It’s the perfect mix of art, culture, nature, food, shopping and nightlife. The vibrant and lively city entices both the culture buff and eager shopper in me. I loved visiting the magnificent temples as much as finding bargains in their countless malls and shopping haunts. Must-do’s would definitely be sipping cocktails on top of Lebua, the tallest building in the city and taking a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya river. On top of all these, the Thai people are probably one of the most charming and accommodating people. That will surely make your stay a pleasant one. – Kim, Med student

The best summer destination for me and my son, Elmo, is Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa. We spent our first summer together there and came back a couple of times last year. We had so much fun! For someone like me who loves the beach so much and at the same time has to make sure my baby can join in the fun, this place has everything for us. From water sports like the jetski, kayak and sea trek  to chilling by the beach in the afternoon, a dip in the pool by evening, some cocktails and great food with friends at the Cowrie Cove while my Elmo is playing in the Toddler Zone. Maybe even a relaxing sauna session or jacuzzi hot tub bath with the ladies – this is our best summer experience so far! – Victoria, Proud mother

Timoga, Iligan is my favorite summer destination. I visit my relatives in Iligan every summer so we make it a habit to visit Timoga. The pool is really big! (double the size of the Abellana pool). It also makes use of flowing water so it’s pretty cold which makes it more enjoyable! – Kim, VAMP Model

Here are my personal recommendations for good getaways in the ZeroThreeTwo.

Visit the Resorts!

Deep inside we’re all child adventurers. Your inner child would love the pools and slides in Imperial Palace. Friendly staff. The food is SUPERB! Last time I went there, the day use rate was 2500 per person. If you want a more laid back resort where you can just enjoy good food, chill and swim and pay less than a thousand for a day’s use then go to Costabella. Being a resident of Mactan, I’m blessed with quick access to numerous resorts that are worth visiting. There’s a long list of good resorts to choose from so it’s impossible to run out of choices.

Drive Down South

I love going down south when I want a quieter and more private place. You can check out my favorites – Granada Beach Resort and Sumilon Island. You can never go wrong with those choices.
