Last week, we talked about following your gut when taking photos. This week, I’d like to share another “feeling” tip that I personally use.
It’s about feeling your camera.
Familiarize yourself with the camera’s layout, feel the buttons, adjustment wheels, focus rings, etc. Almost all cameras have ‘clicks’ when you turn the wheels. Knowing how many clicks from f1.4 to f5.6 and back will save you time. No more looking down on your camera, fidgeting with the settings and then finally taking that shot.
When I first got my camera, I memorized the layout of the buttons and wheels. I picked up this practice from our 3rd grade computer exam. We typed in the words that our instructor would say while we were blindfolded. Talk about hardcore. haha
The key takeaway is to familiarize the layout. Even for smartphone users. I used to ‘shoot from the hip’ using my iPodtouch and it helps.
