Along with the music playlist, I wanted to include a recommendation for your television needs this holiday season.

Set in the late 1970’s, The Get Down follows the life of a bunch of kids with big dreams. The show chronicles the birth of underground hip-hop from mainstream disco that was all the rage then. With one of the biggest budgets for a TV series, it successfully sends you back in time to the old school Bronx in all its groovy glory. How true to life it is? I can’t say for sure. But The Get Down does cast a Grandmaster Flash who is considered a real pioneer in the DJ and hip-hop scene.

Co-created by one of my favorites, Baz Luhrman (Romeo and Juliet – 1996, Moulin Rouge – 2001, and The Great Gatsby – 2013), I knew this would be a good show.

You can stream The Get Down right now on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:

Below is the playlist for the month and epic art from our friends at Happy Garaje.

Enjoy!
