Sinulog 2018 Lookbook

This year promises to be a different Sinulog. Less parties and no alcohol near the parade makes for a more family friendly feast. Bringing back the onus to why we celebrate Sinulog in the first place, the Sto. Nino.

Many of us are familiar with the Sto. Nino story.

“It is one of the oldest Christian relics in the Philippines, originally given in 1521 as a gift by explorer Ferdinand Magellan to Rajah Humabon and his wife when he landed on the island.”

Dating back a few hundred years, the Sto. Nino has proven to be an influential symbol in our day to day lives. Inside every Cebuano home there is a shrine dedicated to the Sto. Nino. Whenever there is a fire in Cebu, you will inevitably see a Sto. Nino held up in prayer. This image of the child Jesus holds a special place in the eyes of every Cebuano. This is ever more true than during Sinulog.

In the first few weeks of January, the symbol of Sto. Nino will be everywhere. Jeepney passengers clutching a Sto. Nino, pungko-pungko costumers eating puso and barbecue with a Sto. Nino on the table, during the festival itself, children will be dressed in the image of the Sto. Nino, all this in the name of celebration.

This year, we’ve decided to honor the Sto. Nino.
