“Art is not a thing, it is a way”
-Elbert Hubbard

…and art has taken Honeylyn and her friends to the outskirts of Cebu.

SaveTheDoodles is an initiative headed by Honeylyn Balingcasag. Her aim is to encourage kids and the kids at heart to enhance their creativity by giving out pencils for free.

Sounds simple right? It isn’t.

Honee and her group give out pencils to kids who have difficulty acquiring them, and they are mostly located in schools without easy access to public transportation – like the mountains.

For SaveTheDoodle’s first project, I went with them to Mabini Integrated School. It is located 30 minutes away from the Pit-os boundary. Unless you have a car that can endure a 30-minute ride in a continuous upward slope, the only way to get there is by riding a habal-habal. We were lucky to have a government sanctioned bus to take us there.

Aside from the pencil freebies, they also conducted a short but comprehensive workshop on drawing basic shapes to elementary and high school kids. And more importantly, gave out ideas and encouragement.

Got a bunch of pencils lying around? SaveTheDoodles accepts both second-hand and new pencils. How to donate? You can contact Honee at 0923-4629818.
