Without knowing it, you’ve likely seen many of the works from Kidlat. That’s the advantage of being a street artist, the city is your canvass. Kidlat is credited as one of the founding members of Ubec Crew and the Junks Collective. These two groups happen to house the most prolific artists in Cebu.
“Kidlat declares, ‘Art is so much bigger than the artist. Mine has a purpose and that purpose is for the masses.’ According to him, Retaso is a collection of salvage stories and articulated cliches from his daily battles within and around his environment. He aims to highlight how, through our common observations, experiences, and lessons, we as a people are interconnected as we cope with different situations on different grounds.”
Retaso: Of Salvage Stories and Articulated Cliches, a solo exhibit by Kidlat, will run until August 17, 2015 at Qube Gallery in Crossroads, Banilad, Cebu City.
