Whenever I see a kid’s smiling face, it never fails to melt the heart. Frankly, it’s not difficult to brighten up a kid’s day. All you need is to give them a few treats, play with them or just make a funny face. But to make a thousand smile all at once, now that’s a big achievement.
Convergys invited Zerothreetwo to tag along to a morning of good vibes. They had a little surprise for the students at Barangay Luz Elementary School. Employees from Convergys IT Park marched towards the school armed with bags packed with all sorts of useful stuff and, of course, Jollibee meals.
The kids were ecstatic. When I arrived, they were gleefully lining up outside of their classrooms. The familiar ruckus of charged grade schoolers filled the air. Slowly yet surely little boys and girls occupied the gym. Class after class poured in awaiting their generous visitors.
As you can imagine, the Convergys employees were equally excited. Whenever there’s an opportunity to help, people in Cebu like to come out in groves. This was a result of Convergys’ “Give A Bag of Hope” Campaign. Employees personally helped chip in to make this happen. They were given the option to voluntarily donate monetarily, give actual donation of school supplies or via their referral program to join the company. Every successful referral resulted to a bag of hope donated in the referring employee and new hire’s names.
Why donate a bag full of school supplies?
“Recent reports have shown that there have been barriers to education, hindering Filipino students from fully participating in school. Some of the factors mentioned affecting school children to drop out include lack of personal interest, high cost of education, and lack of money to pay for transportation and to buy school supplies.” (Give A Bag of Hope Press Release)
Based on the photos, the kids really appreciated the gesture. There were smiling faces all around. See for yourself.
