There’s no questioning the Filipino’s knack for song and dance. But when a mob of accused thieves, rapists and murderers in tangerine jumpsuits zombied, moonwalked and crotch-grabbed in clockwork unison, the entire planet sure can’t help but tune in and join the party.

The dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention & Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) shot to Internet fame in 2007 when their Thriller dance exercise routine debuted in YouTube.

No doubt, these jailbirds have become a global pop culture phenomenon, grooving their way to the pages of TimeLos Angeles Times and Entertainment Weekly. In January 2010, they were professionally filmed for the Michael Jackson’s This Is It tribute DVD. And in a recent episode of Glee, Mr. Shuester motivated his kids to do their own Thriller number by positively referring to the inmates’ “mega performance” which resulted to an 80% drop in prisoner on prisoner crime.

Talk about smooth criminals.
