Calling all adept at flipping, grabbing, grinding, ollie-ing, and plain riding! Yes, we are talking to you, skateboarders! Let’s show the rest of the Philippines what skating is about… southern style.
Converse invited us to the launching of the Asia Crown: The Road to the Philippine Skate Summit 2012. The event was held in Ayala and it was set to announce a nationwide competition to be held in Manila.
Converse is looking for the city’s best unsigned amateurs and pros to battle it out to win a one year supply of Converse apparel and to represent the Philippines in the Asia Crown skateboard competition abroad.
To join, all you have to do is register in any Converse outlet. And it’s free! No registration fee. No purchase necessary. Unfortunately you’ll have to cough up airfare. The competition will be in Manila (actual venue TBA) on March 31, 2012. There’s plenty of time to save up, no one said glory comes cheap.

Asides from the competition, you can expect live music from the best Filipino bands, graffiti artists spraying around, and skateboarding clinics by the greats. It is gonna be one heck of a partey!
Here’s a video of what you missed in Ayala on that day on Oct. 15, 2011.
PS – Here’s a cool video of Converse sponsored skater Kenny Anderson
PPS – In my day, we used to call skaters “thrashers.” Do people still do that?
