Welcome to Through the Lens!

Halloween is next week! Do you have any cool photography ideas?

If not, try doing some of these things.

Dress up! Halloween is all about the costumes. Dress up your kids, your little brother or sister and have a mini photoshoot. Go all out on creativity. The uglier, the better!

Put those make up skills to good use. Be a Walker or the Shambler. Or you can be Rick Grimes. “The new world’s gonna need Rick Grimes.”

Remember those stacks of ketchup packets from your last fast food take out? It’s time to get dirty! Be the best ketchup-sucking vampire in the hood… and don’t forget those fries.

Speaking of food, take creative photos of your decorative cupcakes, candies and other goodies! Plus points if someone is eating it.

Take photos before, during and after the craziness. Take photos while preparing your decorations, the celebration itself, and the mess right after.

If you happen to live in a neighborhood that’s active for Halloween, take a walk and photograph the decorations put up by your neighbors, and the kids trick-or-treating. You can wear your scariest costume while shooting, if you want and be the coolest Kuya or Ate.

It’s also a great time to practice your low-light photography, and long exposure photography. Experiment with these to achieve a ghostly effect in our photos.

Halloween may be a foreign concept to us Filipinos, but it’s another fun celebration we’re glad to embrace. A fun and light way to start celebrating All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s day.

Tune in next week as we talk about shooting in a cemetery. Woooooo!
