I’m no sneaker head, but if I were one there’s only one place to go.
When Gabby’s Closet invited us to their grand opening a few weeks ago, I was curious. I hadn’t really heard about it until that point. All I knew was it was a lifestyle store and seemed to have an interesting brand.
I was in for a lesson at the opening. It was like an introductory course on sneakers. Different sneaker brands and models were being tossed around in regular conversation; Gold Jordans, KD7, Shaqnosis, Foamposite. Our dizzying conversations can be summed up in the Gabby’s Closet Facebook page. They share golden nuggets like…
“Beaters – – A shoe that’s worn without care, usually a shoe that you wear all the time. This is also the same shoe you don’t mind getting stepped on, scuffed, or dirty.”
“Supreme had to cancel the release of this shoe [Supreme x Nike Air foamposite] due to a massive camp out. NYPD had to force them not to sell the shoe in Supreme’s New York store and have it released online.”
“Heat pairs – heat in sneaker slang means hard to find shoe models that are no longer available in retail stores.”
For a neophyte like me, this is a whole new world of sneakerdom. For the sneaker heads, Gabby’s Closet is heaven. Their goal is to allow those of us in Cebu to get dibs on rare sneakers. When Nike has an online announcement of limited edition sneakers, expect Gabby’s Closet to make a run at them.
Expect to find Jordan’s that are already sold out in retail stores, limited editions of Lebron and Kobe’s and even the Nike X Supreme Foamposite. Basically, you’ll find all sorts of sneakers that are hard to score here in Cebu.
