If the heat is any indication, I think it’s safe to say that summer is upon us. It’s the perfect time to leave the city, lounge around the beach and leave life’s worries, even for a bit.

Here are six hot books to keep you company this summer.

6 Hot Books to Read for the Summer - Zerothreetwo - Krisha Rule

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

In this funny debut, Kevin Kwan paints a picture of the ultra-rich and super-famous. Rachel Chu wants simple things. She’s in love with her boyfriend, Nick, and both of them share a peaceful, domestic existence Stateside. What Rachel doesn’t know is that Nick is one of Asia’s most eligible (and filthy-rich) bachelors! Witty and satirical, Crazy Rich Asians shows the readers just what it is to be young, loaded and Asian. Best read while lounging on a poolside for maximum effect.

The Winter King by CL Wilson

If I judged books by their covers, I probably would never read the Winter King by CL Wilson. The cover is, well, I guess the euphemism for it is trashy-chic. But do not be fooled! I may not recommend the cover but the story is one hell of an adventure. Khamsin, the least-loved princess of a besieged kingdom has been promised as a wife to the cold-hearted Wynter, the conquering tyrant who is hell-bent on issuing his vengeance. But is the king of Wintercraig as cold as he seems? The Winter King is a story of epic proportions. It’s the perfect read if you want a break from the punishing summer heat.

Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Susan Elizabeth Phillips is my go-to girl for anything fun, witty and romantic. Natural Born Charmer is my favorite among her many works. Dean and Blue can’t be any more different. Dean is an NFL star, whilst Blue is… well, let’s say Dean found her on the side of the road wearing a headless squirrel costume. All throughout the book we see them bicker and fight and eventually fall in love in the strangest of circumstances. The book also includes an aging rock icon, a hot mom trying to make amends, a little girl who is lost along the way and an old crone bent on making their lives hell. What more could you possibly ask for?

Just One Year by Gayle Forman

Recommended by Iara Errika Pacaldo

In this sequel to the best-selling novel Just One Day, we find Willem waking up with the vaguest memory of the night before. He senses that something was amiss, but can’t determine what it is. All he knows is he feels compelled to find a girl named Lulu. Set one year after the events of Just One Day, this highly anticipated novel brings us back to the streets of Europe and perhaps, back to love.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

Recommended by Shaira Berame

This is the first book released of a trilogy. It was followed with “It’s Not Summer Without You” and “We’ll Always Have Summer”. This book has drawn mixed reactions with some saying that the story line is too shallow. For me, this is a feel good read with interesting characters. Unlike most romance books which readily ends, this leaves you hanging. The Summer I Turned Pretty shows you how one summer can change your life.
