It’s rare to get the opportunity to watch local Cebuano films via the Internet.
That’s why it came as a surprise when I noticed the Sinulog Foundation posting the winners of the Sinulog Short Film Festival 2015 on YouTube. As much as artists want to protect their work from piracy, there is also value in sharing it with as many people as possible.
Oscar season is upon us, and very good pirated copies of DVDs leaked by Academy members will be flooding the illegal market. It is also the one time of year that you are guaranteed to have decent films at the cinema. The subject matter was heavy with mature topics. I was initially worried the scenes might be too graphic for my taste, but as the director counselled, it was very PG13.
