Amidst its small seating capacity and the challenge of finding the restaurant in the area’s winding roads, this “not so secret burger place” is always full of customers – some of which willingly and patiently wait outside the restaurant to be seated. The ambiance and its inexpensive menu make it a great place to dine.

Dong Juan is known for their burgers. They have six types of burgers ranging from P99 – P149 per order. The Dong Juan Burger is a staple. All the other burgers are patterned out of it, but have add-ons such as cheese, mushrooms, chili, and bacon. All burgers are served fresh off the grill with potato crisps as a side dish. The servings are huge and if you have an appetite like me, one burger order would probably be good enough for two!

Dong Juan’s menu has developed over the years and they now serve a variety of food like salads, pasta, & pizza. They also serve burger steak for a mere P99; you get a plate of sizzling gravy-filled beef and rice. They have a great range of appetizers too. I recommend the calamares and mozzarella sticks. For dessert, their crème brulee is a must have! Their service is surprisingly quick even if the restaurant gets packed. Based on experience, the average waiting time is about 10-15 minutes (and we went during peak hours!).

Dong Juan’s first branch is located along Emilio Osmena Street, a few meters from the original Mooon Café**. This branch gets a lot of regulars who have known about Dong Juan ever since they started a few years back. Due to its hard-to-find location, my friends and I would dub it as the so-called “secret burger place” in Guadalupe. Luckily, for those who don’t know about Dong Juan as of yet, it’s not so secret anymore!  They recently opened their 2nd and slightly bigger branch at The Persimmon Plus along MJ Cuenco Avenue, Mabolo.

So next time you’re craving for a juicy grilled burger or if you’re looking for a restaurant where you’ll surely get your money’s worth, drop by Dong Juan! It’s definitely one of those places that never disappoints.

*Note: If you can, try calling ahead and make a reservation to ensure you get a table.

** Actually the original Mooon Cafe also started in the same spot where Dong Juan in Guadalupe is found right now. After Mooon Cafe became popular, that’s when they transfered to the house a block away. I think that spot is lucky since that’s where Mooon and Zao started before they moved to larger locations. – Daryl***
