I still remember the first time I cut the spicy lechon from Rico’s. You can literally see the spices oozing out as you cut the skin. Recommended by no other than Anthony Bourdain, they live up to his moniker, “The best pig ever.” In a sense, this isn’t your typical Cebu lechon. There’s something about the way they prepare them that makes it different, but still carry the distinct Cebu flavor. A favorite choice for pasalubongs because of their branches in or near the airport.

The famed Carcar lechon is not easy to find for the typical foodie. Out of every recommendation posted on this list, this is the one where you have to literally drive an hour away from the city, enter the Carcar Public Market, haggle with the vendor, and then finally you have the pig. This is a favorite among those taking roadtrips down south. Part of the allure is the entire experience of actually going there and buying one.
