It’s no secret that we love desserts! Who doesn’t?

A few months ago, we came up with a list of Must Try Desserts in Cebu.  I get asked a lot about where to eat even if I ask myself that question many times too. Oops! One of the questions was where could they find the best Filipino desserts in town. I have personal favorites, but I’m hoping we get more feedback in the comments section from people who have strong feelings about their favorite Filipino desserts and restaurants. Our desserts deserve to be more recognized and patronized.

These are some of my personal favorites and where you can find them:

  1. Puto Bong-Bong

Simbang gabi feels! When I was living in Manila, I would be thrilled whenever we bought Puto Bong-Bong because of how it was prepared, rested on bamboo and steamed. It would smell so delicious. When I moved back to Cebu, I still craved for it. So I looked for restaurants that would sell this delicacy.

Where to find it?

Café Marco at Marco Polo Cebu (You can have it cooked on lunch buffets! Seriously good!) and Café Laguna.

  1. Puto at Dinuguan

Aw the match made in heaven! Who can resist rice cakes that perfectly complement the strong flavor of vampire’s stew (FYI – that’s the English term for Dinuguan!) It is also called Blood Pudding Stew. I’m not so sure which sounds better, but the vampire word makes it sound extra exotic.

Where to find it?

The best one I have tried so far is at Puso Bistro at Quest Hotel.

  1. Halo-Halo

Since we live in the tropics and every day seems to get hotter and hotter, Halo-Halo is always a good idea! We Filipinos love Halo-Halo so much as evidenced by the many establishments that offer and even specialize it.

Where to find it?

There’s a lot but these are my spots: Razon’s , Ice Castle and Melton’s. If I want something quicker, Chowking is the obvious answer.

  1. Puto at Sikwate

This one is such a common pair so I’m sure you can buy a lot of good ones from local sellers. Sometimes, this is what I have for breakfast or for an afternoon snack, but it is best taken as comfort food on rainy days that make you want to curl up in bed.

Where to find it?

Aside from the local sellers on the streets, my favorite is the one from Tablea Chocolate Café. Sikwati from Chocolate Chamber is also super good!

  1. Pastillas

This reminds me of childhood so much. I recall not drinking my milk because I just wanted to make pastillas. Although it makes you feel so guilty with its sweetness, this has remained a favorite of many.

Where to find it?

My favorite is the one from Puso Bistro at Quest Hotel. You don’t have to eat at the buffet to try it because it is also sold separately in the main lobby.

  1. Masi

This is my ultimate favorite. Simple ingredients make for a delicious dish. It’s just made of rice flour, peanuts, and sugar filling. Big taste in a small package.

Where to find it?

Since Lilo-an is too far for me, I grab mine during the weekend market at Parkmall.

What are your favorite Filipino dessert? Where do you find them?
